March 18: Was Doug Ford invited?

Margaret Atwood is being interviewed by Matt Galloway. I am so there. I liken this to a big book club meeting with Margaret Atwood hosting. The book in discussion is her new book, Payback. Inevitably, someone talks about her involvement in the fight to stop library closures. She recounts how her return to the connected world from the wilds of Ontario put her amidst all the ‘Atwood for Mayor’ signs.

I am near the end of a very long line for the book signing. I mention that she must be getting tired. She stays silent. For a moment her face says it all, “I really don’t want to be here.”

January 9, 2012: Doctor/photographer

After all the trouble of arranging my schedule to spend 6 Mondays in a row in Toronto, George Brown College cancels the course! I don’t think they have any idea how difficult that was! I pour over the school calendars for all sorts of programs in town. The only course that fits into the Monday night slot is Introduction to Tea. The bonus is that the class starts two weeks later. That works out well: I attend the Reframe the Pap exhibit at the Gladstone Hotel where my colleague, Dr. Sheila Wijayasinghe shows off her photographic and artistic flair. The exhibit raises awareness and funds for the Immigrant Women’s Health Centre.
