Here I am, one month into my year. I just finished re-reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love this morning.
Some of you had likened my year off to hers. I had read the book a couple years ago and found it thought provoking to the point that I got my own copy to re-read. I read the first part just prior to visiting Italy last year, and the second part at the time I headed off to India. So it is fitting that I complete this book during my year to foster the artist side of me--my way of finding balance.
Today’s motto: carpe diem!
- This year’s hot summer followed by sudden cooling means intense tree colours
- In these parts, the best fall colours usually appears in the first few days of October
- Today’s predicted weather: sunny with clouds
- The semiweekly fall colours report that came out today announces that colour changes are at their peak
So that means that today is the day--the day to head out to see the autumnal colours.
The destination: Peterborough and Petroglyphs Provincial Park.
The 2 hour drive went by quickly, with the help of an audiobook. After a few detours, I finally arrived at the park. I only had an hour before the park closed, so headed straight for the visitor centre. I paused for a few seconds to observe the two blue jays flitting by.
The petroglyphs were awe-inspiring: images etched in the stone from centuries past. (Sorry, I was not allowed to photograph the most striking images.)
Other highlights included a picnic stop at lock 17 on the Trent-Severn Waterway.
