October 6: Procrastination is so much fun

Longo’s is finally open! After seeing signs of its imminent appearance in the neighbourhood for years, the day is finally here. I’m excited--but not so excited to show up at 7 a.m. as one of the first 100 customers and get the special bonus box.

Nonetheless, I did luck into some great opening day freebies: coupons for free wine and dinner were in my free shopping bag.

I was in the College Street neighbourhood so stopped by to chat with my Immigrant’s Women Health Centre colleagues. I had forgotten to take a picture of the mobile clinic last week so snapped a couple to share with you this week.

I take my dining group duties seriously. I wanted to check out the Tibet Cafe to see if it would make a good outing. Alas, it doesn’t look like it will work. Instead, I did find a real gem! Mexican Salsas serves up ‘una comida deliciosa‘. It was so good I will no longer have to head south of the border(s). I informed Jésus that I will be coming back, bringing a crowd with me next time. To finish off the Mexican themed meal, I walked across the street to the panaderia for some churros. I’ve tried these fried dough pieces in the past but could not really figure out why they are so popular--at least not until today when I had a fresh churro stuffed with dulce de leche--YUM!

Enough dilly dallying already. I still have over 100 pages to read on the computer and another 100 or so on printed page, and then on to finessing my presentation for the Institute without Boundaries.

I head out to the Art Square Cafe to put in some work hours. This place serves up well-blended teas, provides free WiFi, and creates sumptuous crepes and desserts (which I will skip today--after the churro). Besides, Leyla, who runs the place is an Andy Barrie fan so she must be A-okay.

(Andy Barrie is a recently retired CBC morning show host. I am a big fan of his, having listened to his voice for 15 years.)
