I dodge bikes crossing Fifth Avenue during the Five Boroughs bike ride and head to the Top of the Rock, the observation deck in Rockefeller Center. I get a stunning view of the Empire State Building, midtown, lower Manhattan, and Central Park on this clear almost smogless day.
I head to the Bronx’s new Yankee Stadium to watch the Yankees play against the Blue Jays. My last visit to the Bronx was in 2003 to see Frank Thomas hit a grand slam in the historic old stadium. While I am a Yankees fan, I did let out a soft cheer for the Jays when they score runs--not so loudly that the crowd would bear down on me. I do the American thing, Cracker Jacks and all. I watch my fave Yankee, Jeter, in action. As much as I despise A-Rod's attitude, I cannot help but admire his fielding. Mariano Rivera closes the game.
I visit Georges and get a bonus rare glimpse of a beautiful Manhattan townhouse loft.
Kenneth and I head to Lombardi’s for dinner. This pizzeria is considered the first in U.S. I like New York’s 35 minute table waits. Again, we get a table within minutes. The pizza is good--I would even say it is the best in the US. A chewy yet thin crust topped by house made tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and crowned with fresh basil. We polish off the whole large pizza.
Another enjoyable day full of good food and sights in New York.
