November 1: Working holiday

I crashed in my old tent last night. Arrangements were made for me to move to the Danish camp just so I could eat/work with the rest of the team, but by 9 p.m. last night I was zonked and was not up for a move in the rainy night. I don’t think anyone but my tent mates would notice that I crashed in the wrong tent. So this morning, I packed up my bags and hauled them over to the new tent--not a great way to make a good impression on my new tent mates making a racket at 6 a.m.

The office is abuzzing by 7 a.m. A big training session is happening today. Despite it being a big holiday in Haiti, the national staff have all shown up for a good day's work--great dedication to Karin and their work. I do my small part in providing a Power Point presentation with an overview of cholera. The DVD that I had spent two months putting together will be distributed to each participant. I am so happy about the prospect of it being used. The hand washing song is already being used quite widely.

The original plan was that I would supervise the training but then plans sometimes changes hourly. I end up attending a meeting at the health department instead.

I take on a whole new project: I will be setting up a training module for all the health professionals who will need to be trained in cholera management.
