This is so discouraging. I eat healthily. I exercise vigorously each day, and my weight has already gone up 2 pounds since January 1st. I know, I know. There are fluctuations in the weight and muscle weighs more than fat, and all the other facts that affect one’s weight, but I was really hoping to have some encouragement from my scale.
I start reading Room, which came highly recommended by my creative writing instructor, Beth Kaplan. This book had been shortlisted for the 2010 Man Booker Prize. The first hour is slow going, then I get engrossed in the story of 5 year old Jack, whose only home is an 11 by 11 foot room with a meshed skylight. He is not aware that he and his mother are prisoners in the only home he knows. What a brilliant creation by Emma Donoghue, to bring us into a child's world of limited experiential knowledge.
Reluctantly, I close my book and head to Ema-Tei. My dining out group is treated to the tatami room. Well, not exactly. These are 'cheaters' with the recessed leg space. We have 4 new members who quickly get immersed in the fast-paced conversations.
