January 6 marks the official end of this holiday season, at least for me. My Christmas decor comes down. Elsewhere in this multicultural city, people are celebrating Christmas. Still others, Christmas Eve.
I finish reading Room. This activity takes up most of the day. I am not a fast reader at the best of times, so the 321 pages took about 10 hours to complete. Such a literary gem yet also so engrossing. I am immersed in the world of 5 year old Jack. I will not tell more, lest I spoil your read.
The streets are being blanketed by snow. I head out on the streetcar to a surprise birthday dinner for Nish. This should be safer than taking my car out on the slushy streets. It also gives me a taste of life without my own vehicle. I discovered a new website, “Nextbus”, which gives ETAs for buses throughout North America. We compare times, my fellow streetcar riders and I, to see which app gives the most accurate times (so far, it seems like they all give the same times--precision at least, if not accuracy).
