Wandering among the ice sculptures in the pre-dawn darkness is ideal for morning people like me. I am the lone observer. My wanderings continue toward Parliament Hill, down by the canal locks, past Chateau Laurier, and on to Byward Market. Memories flood back: my first visit to Ottawa as a summer student researcher at the National Research Council Laboratories in 1985--first experience living away from home, first taste of Ontario peaches, first exposure to Group of Seven paintings. That was a lifetime ago. I have little memory of the chemical formulas and theories to which I dedicated 6 years of my university life.
I forego the morning debriefing sessions. Porter shuttles me back to Toronto in time for improv class.
